Hoverpost is a link shortener but it goes beyond that. It lets you overlay (or hover) a YouTube video or other embeddable file over a “main” site you specify when you create an account. You can only have one main site, but as many hovering files as you want.
When the app is used, Hoverpost scans for an embed code and then overlays. In essence, this creates a special type of page where a YouTube video (usually) hovers over a main page underneath. If there’s no embed code detected, Hoverpost will simply give you a typical short URL very similar in style to ow.ly or bit.ly or is.gd but no overlay. So remember, the file you want as the overlay needs to have an embed code.
When the user is done watching the hovering video, he/she simply presses the Close(X) button and then the main site underneath will be displayed unobstructed.
Hoverpost is actually a Chrome extension but for all intents and purposes it’s just like a web app. Search for it in the Chrome Web Store. It is free.
